The following details how to format a Syquest 44meg cartridge but applies to all SCSI peripherials:
  • On the SCSI drive the reset enable switch must be ON and the parity switch must be OFF.
  • From the Disk Utility, select 9 to format the SCSI drive.
  • Select the drive ID. 0-7 are allowed. 0 is the default for all loads and saves so an extra step is not necessary to select the drive.
  • Select SPEED when asked to optimize. Either will work, however, the size does not really change much at all and the speed is about 2 - 3 seconds versus 9 - 15 seconds.
  • Select 2 for interleave
  • Select YES to "save old defect list". You MUST do this. You cannot get any format to work if you do not select YES to this option.
  • Select YES to ready and erase
  • The format does not take too long but the verify of blocks does take a while.

Thanks go to Larry Hendry for the info.
